MesaStila is a visually stunning coffee plantation set within an area of twenty-two hectares of outstanding natural beauty. It is surrounded by cooling highland-air, eight mountains, tropical gardens, lush vegetation, and of course the coffee plantation itself.
Visitors begin their insider’s tour at the plantation, learning about the history of Javanese coffee whilst enjoying a trek through the farm. The aromas of the coffee roastery lead the way as the steps of coffee production ae explained and finally we enjoy the taste of freshly brewed coffee. Guests can also purchase items to take home or arrange for them to be sent via courier.
From the coffee house we learn about the famous Javanese herbal drink and traditional medicine called Jamu. It is still produced using natural materials such as roots, bark, flowers, seeds, leaves and fruits grown in the area, and is widely used in Indonesia as a medicine as well as a rejuvenating and invigorating drink.
Jamu can be found throughout Indonesia, however it is most prevalent in Java, where Mbok Jamu (middle-aged Javanese woman in traditional attire), sell this herbal medicine. In many large cities hawkers sell Jamu herbal medicine which carries a distinctive bitter taste sweetened with honey or palm sugar.
