Handling Last-minute Logistics in Siem Reap

Group: 21 board members of a unique non-profit comprising of the world’s most prestigious and economically powerful institutional investors focused on exploring investment opportunities in emerging and frontier markets.

Brief: An extension trip for board management in Cambodia after a four-day conference in Bangkok.

The group arrived in Siem Reap during the very busy Boat Racing Festival. They selected Belmond La Residence d’Angkor, which is situated on the riverside and in the middle of the busiest part of the festival causing logistical problems for transport and access.

Whilst in Bangkok, one member of the group became seriously ill and had to return to their home country. The tour leader provided by the agent had to escort the group member on their flight, which in turn caused the remaining group to arrive in Siem Reap without a leader.

Destination Asia Cambodia team was instructed by the tour leader to liase directly with the end client for the day-to-day arrangements. As the planning of this incentive was undertaken over a sustained period, with the tour leader having come out for an inspection and knowing the Destination Asia Cambodia team very well, our team were well-equipped to handle the smooth operation of the incentive with a new communication link, whilst ensuring all group members had an exceptional experience.

Among the services provided, our team handled VIP fast track immigration assistance, the hotel booking and check-in assistance, a one-hour welcome cocktail reception, a private tour to Kompong Pluk on Tonle Sap Lake, all transport and tour guides, as well as all meals throughout the duration of the trip including a memorable breakfast on gondola boat at Angkor Wat.

Due to the professionalism, flexibility and organisation of the Destination Asia Cambodia team, leadership was taken over with minimal input needed from the end client. The logistical challenges of operating during the busiest festival of the year were also turned into an opportunity for an authentic cultural experience, as group members enjoyed walking through the chaotic festival to reach their dinner location instead of by bus on one evening.

Destination Asia Cambodia received superb feedback from the agent following the group’s departure.
