The Hong Kong Buddhist Association will host Buddha’s Birthday Carnival at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay on 24 May, marking an important religious occasion with a program designed to share Buddhist traditions with the wider community. While the day is celebratory in spirit, it honours the teachings of the Buddha and the cultural values they continue to inspire.
Throughout the day, visitors can observe and take part in meaningful rituals, including a bell ringing ceremony where wishes are offered as a gesture of reflection and goodwill. A colourful parade featuring floats and statues commemorates the Shakya clan, believed to be the ancestral lineage of Gautama Buddha, while offering insight into the symbolism and stories behind the celebration. The Cloud and Water Mobile Library will also be present, providing exhibitions on the Buddha’s life and teachings, alongside a calm Zen space designed for quiet contemplation.
More than 100 booths will be set up across the park, creating an inviting environment for cultural exchange. Visitors can enjoy traditional performances, hands-on workshops, family-friendly activities and exhibitions, as well as a wide selection of vegetarian dishes that reflect the values of mindfulness and compassion central to the occasion.
