Geonbai! School for sool making opens in Korea

Sool is a drink that’s not well known outside Korea, but it’s wildly popular in bars there, especially in cities like Seoul where office workers like to celebrate the end of the working day with a quick sool sharpener.

As part of Destination Asia’s expansion into Korean operations, we’ve added a sool making class to our range of options and we’re confident it will be a hit.

Strictly speaking, sool is an overall name for a wide diversity of non-alcoholic drinks with various flavourings, extending into the alcoholic version known as soju. All versions are based on the production of a milky liquid called dongdongju, which is very mildly alcoholic and has a zingy, refreshing taste. Expert tutors guide their classes all the way through the brewing process, from washing and steaming the rice to mixing fermentation starters and adding flavours. Each step reveals the precision and patience required to craft this time-honoured drink. And, of course, the class includes plenty of opportunities for tasting!

This informal yet informative class is ideal for people who are fascinated by all things Korean, and would make a great experience for corporate groups. The Sool Company, which runs the classes, works closely with our Destination Asia Events team who will be happy to answer any enquiries.
