Part of Leading Hotels of the World, NIHI Sumba has long been recognised as one of Indonesia’s most celebrated luxury resorts. Building on that reputation, the newly opened NIHI Rote introduces a new level of barefoot luxury on Indonesia’s southernmost island. Located along the white sands of Bo’a Beach, the resort overlooks the Indian Ocean and the renowned Bo’a Barrel surf break, a destination well known within the international surfing community.
The resort features 21 private beachside villas, each with its own swimming pool and interiors designed using locally sourced materials, organic textures and sustainability-led principles. Throughout the property, the design draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and Rotenese cultural traditions while maintaining the brand’s signature focus on understated luxury and personalised service.
Dining experiences highlight the flavours and ingredients of Rote Island, with menus shaped by locally sourced seafood, produce from nearby farms and seasonal regional ingredients. Guests can choose from relaxed open-air dining settings, private in-villa meals or specially arranged dinners on the beach overlooking the ocean.
Alongside the resort opening, NIHI Rote has also launched the Rote Hospitality Academy, an initiative designed to provide hospitality training and long-term career opportunities for young people from local communities. The program reflects the property’s wider commitment to creating meaningful local impact while supporting the continued development of tourism on the island.
