A trip beyond the usual Bangkok tourist trail

Capacity: Up to 30 people
Occasion: Single day return trip
Available year-round

Many travellers are familiar with the sights, sounds and tastes of Bangkok. It is, after all, one of the world’s greatest and most visited cities. But few are as familiar with the region on the other side of the Chao Phraya river, known as Thonburi, which is less travelled but equally rewarding to visit.

This journey heads by water limousine to Wat Pak Nam Phasi Charoen, a revered temple overlooked by “Big Buddha”.  The Dhammakaya Thep Mongkol Buddha is a gigantic statue of a cross legged Buddha, standing tall as a symbol of peace and enlightenment,  made entirely of bronze and reaching 69 metres high. Adjoining it is an eight-floor stupa, a bell-shaped icon of Buddhist architecture,  with a stunning emerald glass dome

The journey continues with a trip to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, which is probably  Bangkok’s most famous temple. Guests can wander freely around this truly remarkable site, taking in the incredible intricacy and colour of its carvings. To make the experience totally Thai, they are invited to dress in the gorgeous traditional Thai costumes which are provided. The experience culminates with a private monk’s blessing ceremony in the chapel, an act that is believed to bring prosperity and good karma.
