A ceremony to kick-start the construction of Phan Thiet Airport in the south-central coastal province of Binh Thuan was held recently on 5 April. The airport, situated just a 20-minute drive from the coastal fishing town of Mũi Né, is set to receive both domestic and international flights and shorten travel time to Vietnam’s famous red and white sand dunes.
Construction of the airport is planned to be completed in 20 months, with operations beginning in December 2022. Once completed, the airport will offer domestic flights between Phan Thiet and Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh, Buon Ma Thuot, Phu Quoc, and Danang city. The international flight route is currently still under discussion.
