Enlightenment Comes To Singapore

The age-old Hindu festival of lights is has, known as Deepavali or Diwali is known as a most wonderful, enchanting event. And over the years it has become a major highlight on Singapore’s cultural calendar.

This year’s event on 12th November offers a unique, annual opportunity to rejoice in hope over despair, good over evil and light over darkness. This is when the streets of the  Little India neighbourhood burst into shimmering life and colour, lit up by thousands upon thousands of lights. At every turn there are street parades, craft and heritage exhibitions, countdown concerts as well as countless pop-up stalls and stores decorated with fragrant flowers, incense burners, traditional oil lamps, garlands, glittering gems, beautiful saris, stunning Indian sweets and snacks.

Come along for the evening, take your place in any of the coffee shops and order yourself a teh tarik which is a frothy milk tea. Then simply sit and savour the unique ambience, colourful celebrations and lively crowds filling the streets.
