Here’s a Hong Kong attraction with a fascinating backstory. Kowloon Walled City Park was built as a complex of studios where a whole host of famous box-office successes were filmed, including the smash hit Twilight.
It was demolished in the early 90s but did not fade from movigoers’ memories and many productions filmed there have become cult classics. It has now been fully rebuilt with 50 meticulously authentic sets and opened to the public, who are turning up in droves to look around. As well as wandering through the classic backdrops that gave life to the films, visitors get fascinating information and tricks of the trade, like how the producers were able to convincingly re-create the sight and sound of low-flying war planes.
An entirely original kung fu film, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, has been produced there and is now on release, where it has won major awards. As one reviewer put it: “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” is a once-in-a-while assembly of talent that will make even the most hardened skeptic agree – this one’s worth the hype.”
The complex is scheduled to remain open until 2028.
