Uwajima is one of the worst affected areas of the recent floods to hit Japan. As of Monday evening, around 11,000 people were staying in evacuation centers in 15 prefectures, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. Destination Asia Japan operates many cruise port calls in this area and has a long standing relationship with the local government there. Akari Hirano Reed, our contracting manager at DA Japan drove an initiative to donate fresh drinking water to the city – and with the support of Peter Cools (General Manager) and Jarrod Stenhouse (Managing Director), was able to send a first shipment of water earlier this week.
