The Famous Peak Tram Scales New Heights Following Overhaul

It has always been a must-do Hong Kong experience to take a ride on The Peak Tram, the 100-year-old funicular railway that makes its way up and down a seemingly impossible gradient, soaring above the Central district’s skyscrapers to the peace, greenery and breathtaking views of the Peak. Now, after a year’s closure and a comprehensive overhaul costing over $100 million, the sixth generation of this venerable institution has reopened. The all-new tramcars have been restored to their original green livery, the interiors have been redesigned with more space and bigger windows for a more commanding view, the rolling stock, signals and signage are all brand new, and the termini at the top and bottom have been made more spacious and comfortable. Both the Central and the Peak termini feature fascinating exhibitions that illustrate the railway’s history and the amazing biodiversity to be encountered at the peak.
