The Fisherman’s Village on Koh Samui

Asia Talk-thailandThailand is a nation of ‘walking streets’, which are essentially street markets teeming with stalls selling various items and culinary delicacies. If you find yourself on Koh Samui in search of a shopping opportunity, head to the well-known ‘Fisherman’s Village’, located in Bophut along the island’s northern shores. Here you will find a host of trendy boutique shops, street market stalls, vintage outlets and elegant tea shop houses – all mingled together. There are even old Chinese shop houses converted into welcoming restaurants and bars.

On Friday evenings the Fisherman’s Village comes to life as it opens the ‘Walking Street’, turning the road into a pedestrian street. The road is lined with stalls selling everything from clothing to cheap tropical cocktails, and a whole host of street-food. If you are feeling adventurous, try a local specialty such as deep fried insects! They’re quite addictive and some say delicious.
