This one-day itinerary is designed for travelers with a short stop in Phnom Penh, but will be equally enjoyable for those with more time to explore.
The day starts with a speedboat ride over sunken rice paddies to Phnom Da, one of Cambodia’s oldest temples. From the top of this 6th-century tower, you’ll have sweeping views that pre-date the Angkor dynasty. Next, visit Asram Maharosei, a unique, Indian-style sandstone temple nearby.
After a lunch featuring local specialties, the tour continues to Phnom Chisor, a mountaintop temple offering expansive views of green rice fields and remarkable preservation despite damage during the Khmer Rouge era. The second last stop is the lakeside temple of Tonle Bati, a popular spot for locals to relax. As this is most atmospheric in late afternoon, the trip has been timed to coincide with that before heading to Yeay Pou pagoda to finish this whistlestop tour.
