The internationally recognised teamLab arts collective has launched teamLab Biovortex Kyoto, its largest exhibition in Japan to date. The new immersive digital art space spans more than 10,000 square metres and features over 50 new original installations, continuing the collective’s reputation for creating boundary-pushing experiences that attract visitors around the world.
Designed to blur the relationship between art, space, and the human senses, the exhibition invites visitors to move freely through a series of interactive environments. Digital flocks of birds appear to respond to movement, water seems to flow beneath visitors’ feet, and large-scale installations shift and transform in real time. One of the most popular works, Morphing Continuum, features glowing crystalline spheres that merge and separate in constantly changing formations.
For group programs, the experience offers something refreshingly different from traditional sightseeing. The open, exploratory layout encourages guests to move, interact, and share the experience together, creating a playful and memorable activity outside the usual meeting or office environment. With a recommended route through the exhibition but flexibility to revisit favourite installations, the experience can be easily adapted to different group dynamics and schedules.
Set against Kyoto’s reputation as Japan’s cultural heart, teamLab Biovortex Kyoto provides a strikingly contemporary counterpoint to the city’s temples and heritage sites. The exhibition welcomes groups of up to 100 visitors, making it a strong option for incentive programs, creative breaks during conferences, or evening cultural activities.
