Immersive Side Trip for Visitors Attending Meetings in Hong Kong

Venue: Yim Tin Tsai, Hong Kong

Capacity: 50 pax, split into groups

While business is, of course, the priority for most international meetings and conferences, there are several excellent reasons why an agenda should also include at least one R&R opportunity, as it brings benefits for delegates and organisers alike. However, this activity must be easy to manage, easily accessible, not too time-consuming and, ideally, should impart a strong taste of local culture.

Our Hong Kong MICE manager Phyllis has worked alongside a local strategic partner to create an activity that ticks all those boxes – a half-day visit to Yim Tin Tsai, a tiny island whose name translates as Little Salt Pan.

The only place in Hong Kong that still produces salt today, it has a colourful background, abounding with history and culture – not to mention some truly stunning views across the bay. The salt pans are now a UNESCO-listed heritage site, as is the cathedral which recalls the time when the island was a catholic settlement.

The trip centres around a leisurely, easily manageable hike through mangrove forests rich with wildlife across Jade Girdle Bridge, which reveals some of the most scenic vistas. The stroll is followed by an excellent seafood meal on the beachfront.
