Innovative art trail opens in Singapore

The Arts House Singapore has launched a brand-new public art trail, in collaboration with the Asian Civilisations Museum, Esplanade, National Gallery Singapore, and Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall.

Known as “Benchmarks,” the trail features six works by Singapore-based artists, dotted around the civic district, which feature unique interpretations of benches — and yes, you can sit on them!

Check out ‘This is Not a Bench’ by Lua Boon Ka for its fun and humorous concept, or ‘Sayang! Satay Sayang!’ which commemorates a time when Singapore’s Esplanade was a popular spot for couples to stroll along and stop for some satay skewers. It has been re-created to resemble a satay seller’s bench and charcoal pit.

The trail begins at the Arts House but travellers are welcome to follow it in any order. They’ll be treated to some awesome Singapore city views along the way. Benchmarks is on display from August 2024 all the way through to 31 July 2026.
