A taste of Cambodian life with a visit to Kampong Cham

Our management team recently travelled to Kampong Cham, a city centred around the majestic Mekong River which acts as a main staging point for low water Mekong cruises.

Cruising along the banks of the river makes for a fascinating couple of days off the beaten path, enjoying the slower pace of Cambodian life. The ancient Wat Hanchey provides beautiful views from its ancient Angkor-era pagoda, while there are top-notch wellness and meditation facilities in the purpose built sala overlooking the river at Hanchey Bamboo Resort. This resort is also a simply perfect place for seeing the sun rise.

Kampong Cham itself is a charmingly sleepy little town that’s a delight to explore. Visitors shouldn’t miss the colonial French tower that watches over the town and the world’s longest bamboo bridge that links to Koh Pen Island.  There’s also Wat Nokor Hanchey, a historically significant Angkorian temple where they’re happy to host memorable private group dinners.

All in all, the team agreed that adventurers heading out from Phnom Penh and heading for Kratie, Chhlong or Mondulkiri would definitely enjoy a break and a detour here.
