Meet a Master of Many Arts in Luang Prabang

Guests are invited to embark on a half-day art and culture tour in beautiful Luang Prabang with Mr. David Somsanith, a descendant of Luang Prabang’s provincial viceroys, who is therefore entitled to claim the title of Prince, and an acknowledged master of numerous arts including painting, sculpture, lacquerware and exquisitely detailed gold thread embroidery.

A classic example of a Renaissance man, Mr. Somsanith studied medicine in Vientiane but left Laos in 1985 to take a fine arts course at the Beaux Arts School in Orleans, France, then psychology at the famous Sorbonne University. He returned to Luang Prabang in 2005, where he has resided permanently ever since and is delighted to impart some of his immense learnings and experience to visitors. He has devoted his time to the transmission and preservation of the artistic heritage of Laos, as he sees it as a pillar of local Buddhist principles, which hold that all the arts communicate with each other and can be paths towards enlightenment.
