Uncovering Nam Dinh’s Churches & Traditional Craft Villages

Situated in the Red River Delta of Vietnam just 90km outside of Hanoi, the coastal province of Nam Dinh offers all who visit the opportunity to be truly immersed into the rustic beauty of a rural landscape and discover the rich culture and history of local residents. Still relatively unknown and less frequented by foreign travellers, Nam Dinh is an ideal destination for families wishing to venture off the beaten track.

Nam Dinh is where Catholicism first took root in Vietnam. As a result, the city was heavily influenced by Spanish and French Gothic architecture and boasts a plethora of beautiful basilicas. Along with the historical and cultural heritage, Nam Dinh has also preserved a wide range of handicrafts such as silk-making from cocoons, bronze casting, brass trumpets, and water puppet figurines.
