Women hold a vital place in Balinese society, yet divorce remains a sensitive issue in this ancient and largely rural culture. As a result, divorced women may still face challenges and societal pressures.
Ibu Sari is one woman who knows this only too well. She is motivated by her own difficult journey through divorce and a 12-year separation from her daughter. During these tough times, it occurred to her that countless other women have faced the same adversities, so she created a Women’s Centre to provide a secure environment for them.
At the centre, valuable job skills are imparted through educational programs, with a practical focus on usable skills in cooking, catering, making clothes and accessories and learning some tricks of successful selling!
Guests are warmly invited to meet Ibu Sari and hear her story, gaining profound insights about the role of women in traditional Balinese society. They then join in hands-on experiences, selecting from activities such as herbal tea blending, batik painting, soap making and more. After the activity, they’re invited to sit down and enjoy a delicious Balinese lunch lovingly prepared by the talented women of the centre.
