Organising a samurai-focused Japanese dinner

The brief: A leading New Zealand real estate agency asked us to arrange an event for 75 top performers and their guests. The clients made a specific request for it to have a samurai theme, with a display of swordsmanship and a small sumo exhibition.

We explored several venues that seemed suitable, but each raised concerns about the safety of hosting a samurai sword demonstration and mini sumo match indoors.

After some research, we found the perfect location at XEX Bar in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district. The venue offered high ceilings, flexible spaces, and exceptional food and premium wines, ensuring both safety and an impressive experience.

The event began with a champagne reception, followed by a stunning, choreographed swordsmanship display. In a separate area, guests were introduced to sumo wrestling before enjoying an exciting exhibition bout between two renowned wrestlers.

The clients were thrilled with the outcome, noting that it provided their guests with an exclusive glimpse into Japanese culture that they wouldn’t find elsewhere.
