Reducing Plastic Waste: Destination Asia Introduces Refillable Bottles

We live in a beautiful world that is currently drowning in plastic waste. Many of our rivers and oceans are swamped in plastic that is choking the life from them.

According to Plastic Oceans Foundation, we are now producing nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year, half of which is for single use. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year.

To help reduce the number of single use plastics being produced, used and dispose of, Destination Asia recently introduced refillable water bottles on a number of its tours. The initiative is active in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam with Indonesia and Japan joining soon. Within the next year we anticipate all 11 countries in our network to offer refillable water bottles to travelers.

As a member of the ‘Travelife Sustainability in Tourism’ scheme and advocate of responsible tourism, Destination Asia is working with its entire supply chain including hotels to integrate the bottles and set up refill stations.
