A trip that combines two top Balinese Hindu celebrations

For 2027, we’re delighted to offer a rare opportunity to experience two of Bali’s most sacred celebrations, Galungan and Kuninga – which mark the triumph of good over evil and return of ancestral spirits. They’re normally celebrated twice a year, but the close proximity of their dates mean there’s just one single event in 2027.

The tailored experience begins at a traditional Balinese home where the guides, descendants of local Hindu priests, are happy to explain the details and symbolism while introducing the hands-on aspects.

Men are encouraged to help make ceremonial dishes for a feast, while women join in crafting delicate offerings for the family shrine. Then all join together to create a penjor, the beautifully decorated bamboo pole seen throughout Bali during the festivities.

After the rituals, there’s a sumptuous Balinese lunch featuring local specialties, and a traditional dance performance.

This experience is available during the Galungan and Kuningan period from 12 June to 2 July 2027, excluding the main celebration days on 17 June and 27 June which are reserved for locals only. The aspects that are open to visitors do give a unique opportunity to witness and take part in one of Bali’s most important traditions.
