Ahoy There! The Dragon Boats are Back in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races are set to make a very welcome return on 24-25 June 2023 after a four-year break. These races are an integral follow-up to the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 22 this year, and is a traditional, time-honoured set of rituals and practices to drive away darkness and invite fresh, clean energy into life.

Co-organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, the event will see contests between top class teams from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and other parts of the world. For the first time, cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the four main races.

Spectators can experience the thrill of the races along the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade, which turns Victoria Harbour and its surroundings into a riot of colour and spectacle, with noisy battalions of drummers and passionate fans cheering their favourites all the way to the finish line.

Another highlight of the event which adds even more fun and festivity is the fancy dress competition, open to teams that participate in any race.
