New international airport terminal opens in southern Thailand

An exciting new era of tourism in southern Thailand arrived in Nakhon Si Thammarat last month, with the opening of a new international airport terminal. Several airlines are already using the airport to travel from Bangkok and direct flights from Asian markets including Singapore, China, Taiwan and Malaysia are due to be added soon. Eco-conscious visitors will be pleased to note the terminal prioritises energy efficiency, with numerous initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainability.

The opening of this international terminal represents a major milestone in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s strategy to attract a new generation of experience-seeking travellers to the region. With countless unspoiled beaches, dense forests, soaring mountains and pure, unpolluted air, the province is a paradise for nature lovers.

The city of Nakhon Si Thammarat itself is one of the oldest in Thailand, home to a hive of artisan traditions such as batik making and silversmithing, as well as one of the country’s most ancient Buddhist temples, Wat Phra Mahathat, which dates from the early 13th century. By the way, the cuisine of southern Thailand is noticeably different to its more northern neighbours and travellers can savour it at its best here!

It’s also just a short drive to Khanom, a coastal resort that’s the very definition of an unspoilt and undiscovered gem. Home to untouched beaches, surrounded by jungle-clad mountains and a warm turquoise sea, orchards, it delights the eye with orchards, fruit farms and vivid green rice fields.

Destination Asia Thailand offers several multi-day packages that take in Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat and other delights of this unique, characterful and friendly region. For more information, get in touch with our reservation team in Thailand at: [email protected]
